Our story began in 1985 in Worcestershire, founded by Bill Ballard. Back then, we were a boutique firm focussed on providing high-quality, local accountancy. We spent those early years listening to our clients and realised that businesses needed more than just someone to "do the books", they needed a partner who understood their ambitions.
By 2002, we hit a major milestone by officially becoming a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP). At this stage in our journey, we were known as Ballard Dale Syree. This wasn’t just a legal change; it was a statement of intent. It allowed us to bring in more talent and create a structure where our Partners could truly lead their specialised departments.
In 2005, we began a concerted effort to become specialists rather than generalists, and it was during this era that we became known as Ballard Dale Syree Watson. We identified a significant gap in the market for medical-specific accounting, and by bringing in dedicated expertise, we began building what is now one of the most respected medical accounting divisions in the region.
In 2018, we simplified and rebranded to Ballards LLP, reflecting our transition into a modern, full-service advisory firm, covering a broad range of sectors. We were no longer just accountants; we were now providing Corporate Finance and specialised Tax advice to a much broader client base. It was also during this year that we launched our Recruitment service, which ultimately led to the founding of Four Squared Recruitment.
To better support our clients' ambitions, we evolved into a full-service firm by launching our IT & Digital Transformation consultancy in 2020 and welcoming digital design agency, Creative Folks to the group in 2023. By integrating digital innovation and creative strategy with our core financial expertise, we provide a total solution to help our clients adapt, grow, and realise their full goals.
In 2023, we significantly expanded our footprint by opening a flagship office in the heart of Birmingham city centre and investing in a major, modern office in Worcester allowing us to cover the full Midlands and surrounding area. This growth reflects our commitment to being closer to our clients and establishing a permanent presence in the heart of the business communities we serve.
Recognising that our clients' ambitions were increasingly global, we joined AGN International in 2024, giving us a footprint in over 80 countries and allowing us to further serve clients who have international considerations or ambitions. By 2025, our Birmingham presence had grown leading to us relocating to a premier space at 15 Colmore Row, Birmingham.
We are now a team of over 150 specialists serving a broad range of sectors with specialist services, with the ability to provide "Big Four" levels of expertise while maintaining our signature personal touch.
