The Wave - IT current state assessment

Key challenge

The Wave is an inland surfing destination, situated on the outskirts of Bristol, born out of a passion for technology, nature, and human health. At its heart is an unbelievable surfing lake with perfect waves, set in incredible green space. Additionally, The Wave operates an on-site retail shop, cafe, campsite, and corporate bookings.  

Opening in 2019, and having experienced a post Covid period of rapid growth and innovation The Wave wanted an independent review to assess their current systems and processes to identify risks and efficiencies but also to advise of any wider opportunities that could be exploited compared to best practice. 

Work completed

Ballards IT and Digital Transformation department were selected to conduct an IT Current State Assessment. Our expert team spent several days on site at The Wave holding discovery meetings with the leadership team, department leads and key operational staff to review and understand the IT system landscape, underlying IT infrastructure, 3rd party IT support partners and both businesses and operational processes and procedures. 

The information gathered was analysed and compared to both best practice and also to similar businesses. 

Key risks and opportunities were identified along with a set of actionable prioritised recommendations and next steps, which were presented and walked through with The Wave leadership team.

Results

The review and resulting report was very well received by The Wave, with the actionable recommendations forming the basis of the future IT strategy, that is now being actively progressed.
